Winter Home Safety

As the days get colder, stay warm and safe with these tips:

Install a Carbon Monoxide detector on each floor of your home, and near sleeping areas
Place space heaters at least 3 feet away from curtains, furniture and areas where children play
Supervise children at all times when a space heater is in use
Burn only seasoned wood in fireplaces and woodstoves — not cardboard, newspaper or trash. These items burn unevenly and may contain toxins
Use sturdy screens or doors to keep embers inside the fireplace, and to keep kids out
Be sure that the fireplace flue is open before lighting a fire
